The Temple of Ancient Monarchs was first built in the ninth year of the Ming Emperor Jia Jing (1530). It was used by the imperial families of the Ming and Qing dynasties for offerings to the three sovereigns and five emperors of Chinese legend, to the successive emperors, court officials, and military leaders.
