毛詩序：「《凱風》，美孝子也。衞之淫風流行，雖有七子之母，猶不能安其室，故美七子能盡其孝道，以慰其母心，而成其志爾。」凱風
凱風(1)自南，吹彼棘心(2)，棘心夭夭(3)，母氏劬勞。
The genial wind from the south
Blows on the heart of that jujube tree,
Till that heart looks tender and beautiful.
What toil and pain did our mother endure!
凱風自南，吹彼棘薪(4)，母氏聖善(5)，我無令(6)人。
The genial wind from the south
Blows on the branches of that jujube tree,
Our mother is wise and good;
But among us there is none good.
爰(7)有寒泉，在浚(8)之下，有子七人，母氏勞苦。
There is the cool spring
Below [the city of] Jun.
We are seven sons,
And our mother is full of pain and suffering.
睍睆(9)黃鳥，載(10)好其音，有子七人，莫慰母心。
The beautiful yellow birds
Give forth their pleasant notes.
We are seven sons,
And cannot compose our mother's heart.

註解
1. 凱風:和暧的風。一說南風,夏天的風。
2. 棘心:酸棗樹的幼苖
3. 夭夭:樹木嫰壯貌,形容棘心之茁壯
4. 棘薪:《詩經》:「棘薪,喻子之成立。」指成長到可以當柴燒的酸棗樹。
5. 聖善:明理而有美德
6. 令:善
7. 爰:普通话音（原），音（緩）。指何處:一說發語詞,無義。
8. 浚:衛國地名
9. 睍睆:普通话音（现缓），音（演碗）【jiin5 wun2】指清和宛轉的鳥鳴聲。一說美麗,好看。
10. 載:傳載,載送。
