Notes: 我们 is an exclusive personal pronoun. It indicates the speaker and other people but not the person or people being spoken to. Contrast this with 咱们, which includes the person being spoken to. It began to be used in this sense in spoken Chinese sinse the Song and Yuan (Norman 1988, p. 121; Sun 2006, loc. 751).
