Notes: An abbreviation for 注音符号, literally Zhuyin Symbols, is a phonetic transliteration and annotation system for Chinese developed in the Republican period. It renamed 国音字母, literally Phonetic Alphabet of the National Language, in 1930. It is still in use in Taiwan today (Norman 1988, pp. 258-259; Sun 2006, loc. 286).
