Notes: In Literary Chinese, 矣 is analagous to 了 in modern Chinese in being placed after a verb to mark the perfect aspect (Pulleyblank 1995, p. 116) For example, 視之,苗則槁矣 'found the corn all withered' (Mengzi: 3.2/16/5, translation by Legge).
